HR Manager
We're excited to announce that New World Te Atatū will be opening its doors August 2026, offering a new full-service modern supermarket and creating 120 new roles for the Peninsula. We're now looking for an HR Manager who is ready to take the next step in their career. If you've been working in an HR coordinator or support role and you're ready to own the function, this is your opportunity. Joining a brand-new store means no legacy to inherit - just a blank canvas, a great team, and the chance to prove what you're capable of.
Te Tūranga – About the role
- As HR Manager of a brand-new store, you'll take ownership of contracts, onboarding, and day-to-day HR as we build our team from the ground up. Working closely with the owner/operator and store management, you'll help establish the HR processes and culture that make New World Te Atatū a great place to work — where staff feel rewarded, recognised, and heard.
- Provide generalist HR advice and support to the Store Management Team and Owner Operator.
- Build relationships with Department Managers and employees to understand team and individual needs.
- Lead recruitment coordination and onboarding of new staff.
- Support and coordinate the Performance Management Program, helping Department Managers complete appraisals on time and assisting with performance and conduct matters.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to employee management.
Ngāpainga – What we offer
- A genuine step-up opportunity — take on your first HR Manager title in a supportive environment where you'll be set up to succeed.
- Development opportunities designed to grow future leaders and store owners.
- The chance to shape how the store operates from day one, not inherit someone else's systems or habits.
- A culture that recognises and rewards hard work, initiative, and results.
- Phone paid for (BYO handset)
- Instant pay rise after 1 year of service.
- Staff discount (5%)
- Long Service Leave
- Birthday leave – take an additional paid day off to celebrate or relax.
He kōrero mōu – About you
- Currently working in an HR coordinator, HR advisor, or people & culture support role and ready to take the next step.
- Solid understanding of HR fundamentals — employment relations, onboarding, performance management, and policy.
- A natural people person who builds trust quickly and genuinely cares about employee experience.
- Organised and proactive, with the confidence to back yourself in a more senior role.
- Experience or exposure to FMCG, retail, manufacturing or supply chain is a bonus.
- Self-aware, approachable, and mindful of your impact on others.
- Comfortable with some ambiguity — this is a new store, and things will evolve. You'll adapt and bring others along with you.
Ko waimātou - About us
New World Te Atatu is a brand-new store built on proven foundations. This will be a full-service New World, done properly. Fresh departments that are full and inspiring, shelves that are always well presented and a store that customers trust because it’s consistent, reliable and run by people who care. What matters to us most is our team. We’re building a group of people who take ownership of their work, show up with a strong work ethic, care about customers and each other, and want to be part of a high-performing store. In return, we offer a supportive environment, opportunities to grow, and a chance to be part of something from the ground up – not just another job, but a store you can be proud of.
