General Manager

PAK'nSAVE Masterton is one of the Wairarapa's leading retail businesses, serving thousands of customers every week and employing a team of more than 180 people.

We're seeking an exceptional commercial leader to join our senior leadership team as General Manager. This is a rare opportunity to take on a pivotal leadership role within a high-performing, fast-paced business, working alongside an experienced Owner Operator to drive growth, performance, and long-term success.

This isn't a traditional store management role.

We're looking for someone who can think strategically, lead commercially, and take ownership of a complex operation. Someone who is equally comfortable leading senior leaders, analysing financial performance, improving operational outcomes, and making decisions that drive the business forward.

The Opportunity

As General Manager, you'll play a critical role in the overall leadership and performance of the business. Working in close partnership with the Owner Operator, you'll help shape strategy, lead execution, and ensure every part of the operation is performing at its best.

You'll be entrusted with significant responsibility and autonomy, acting as a key leader of the business and providing confidence that the operation continues to thrive, regardless of who is on site.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing a team of 180+ employees through a strong tier of departmental and senior leaders.
  

• Driving financial performance, profitability, productivity, and sales growth across the business.
  

• Creating a high-performance culture focused on accountability, development, and continuous improvement.
  

• Using data, insights, and commercial analysis to identify opportunities and solve problems.
  

• Leading strategic planning initiatives and translating plans into operational execution.
  

• Championing exceptional customer experiences that differentiate us from the competition.
  

• Ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and execution across all areas of the store.
  

• Building trusted relationships across the wider Foodstuffs network and local community.

What We're Looking For:

• We're interested in proven business leaders who have successfully managed large teams, significant revenue streams, and complex operations.
  

• You may come from supermarket retail, big-box retail, hospitality, FMCG, distribution, manufacturing, logistics, or another fast-paced customer-focused environment.

Most importantly, you'll bring:

• Strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering business results.
  

• Experience leading large, multi-layered teams through senior leaders.
  

• The ability to understand financial performance and make commercially sound decisions.
  

• Confidence analysing business metrics and using data to drive improvement.
  

• Excellent leadership capability with a passion for coaching, developing, and empowering others.
  

• A strategic mindset coupled with a hands-on approach when required.
  

• The ability to balance long-term thinking with daily operational excellence.
