Are you passionate about ensuring a safe and healthy workplace and upholding food safety standards? We are looking for a Food Safety and Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team!
About the Role:
This role is based in a supermarket environment with in-store food preparation, requiring strict adherence to food safety and hygiene practices tailored to retail food production. You will report to the HR Manager and be the go-to person for implementing and fostering a safety culture.
You will work closely with department managers and various in-store food teams including deli, bakery, and meat departments to assist with compliance, training, and documentation according to health and safety standards.
You’ll play a vital role in fostering a safe, healthy, and food-safe environment for both staff and customers.
Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Implement and maintain robust Health & Safety systems aligned with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
- Ensure compliance with the company plan and food safety best practices.
- Facilitate H&S and food safety training across all departments.
- Support staff wellbeing, including return-to-work assistance.
- Lead a culture of safety and compliance, engaging the team to contribute positively.
- Monitor CCTV footage, manage security and respond to security incidents and emergencies.
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience leading Health & Safety processes.
- Proven experience in Health & Safety and Food Safety
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong computer literacy and organisational abilities
- Self-motivated, with a track record of turning ideas into action
- High attention to detail and confidence managing compliance documentation
- A true team player, comfortable working with diverse groups
Essential Qualifications:
- First Aid Certificate
- Extensive Health and Safety experience and training o NZQA 497 – Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety
- Extensive Food Safety Programme experience and training o NZQA Unit Standard 15275 – Supervising a food safety programme
- NZ Food Hygiene Qualifications (NZQA Unit Standards 167 and 168)
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets
Additional Information: This is a full-time position, working 35 to 38 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, starting at 10:00 AM. Some flexibility with hours may be required.
