IT Service Desk Operator - Foodstuffs South Island

Foodstuffs South Island Limited is a major wholesale and retail group operating as a co-operative providing a high level of service to its members. These members include New World, PAK’nSAVE, Four Square, Henry’s,  Raeward Fresh and On the Spot outlets.

We are seeking a self-motivated, experienced IT support person to join our IT Service Desk Team. This role within Foodstuffs IT Support is based at our Christchurch Head Office, and will involve shift work on a rotational basis.

The successful person will be part of a team providing telephone and other IT support for problems that occur on our information systems. 

The support we provide to the company’s members is on a wide range of information systems, such as Point of Sale, PC’s, networks and retail software applications.

Applicants are required to have a good knowledge of IT systems, and general PC use. Familiarisation with software packages such as MS Word and Excel is also required.  

This is a customer focused IT position. You will be comfortable learning new software applications and business processes. Training will be provided where necessary and experience in supermarket operations is an advantage. The dynamics of the role suit an applicant that is well organised and enjoys a busy team environment.

Key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Being the important first point of contact for our members with IT issues
  • Receiving support requests via phone and email
  • Resolving support requests and maintaining call queues
  • Escalating support requests to appropriate staff when required
  • Assisting team members with the management of call logs
  • Communicating to users and other personnel on progress/results
  • Other tasks, projects or duties within the scope of the position as required 

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in an IT support role
  • Excellent communication skills and patience
  • Good understanding of computers and software
  • The ability to successfully work in a busy team environment
  • The drive to engage in the continued learning of our business processes
  • The ability to work in a large corporate environment
